The World’s Largest Chocolate Truffle
Monday 11th October
Happy Chocolate Week everyone. We start with some very exciting news. The UK is now home to the World’s largest chocolate truffle! Yesterday, at 16.25 on Sunday 10 October, 2010, Chris Long & Gianni D’Aniello at The Queen’s Head Inn in Bromsgrove, broke the world record for making the largest chocolate truffle.
The dynamic duo began constructing the truffle from Callebaut chocolate at 11am, observed in shifts by independent witnesses from the local community. By 16.25 the final weight was 254.9 kg. The previous world record was set in Germany on 17 May 2008 with a chocolate truffle weighing 196.3kg. The Queen’s Head Inn truffle was 61 cm high with a circumference of 248cm.
Although the record attempt is subject to official verification by Guinness World Records TM, the significant increase in weight achieved is unofficial testament to the hard work of Chris & Gianni, who hope to achiveve official certification in the following few weeks.
Following this successful attempt, the truffle will be broken up and reformed to make individual truffles which will be sold during Chocolate Week to raise money for The Heart Appeal at The Birmingham Children’s Hospital. It is hoped that over 2500 portions will be formed ffor sale, from the record breaking huge truffle.
